What is a Hygienist / Therapist?
As a Therapist they provide treatments similar to a Dentist. They can carry out routine examinations, take x-rays if required and produce a treatment plan for a patient. They carry out fillings and can advise if a patient needs to see a Dentist for more complex treatments, such as Crowns, Bridges, Implants and Extractions.
As Dental Hygienists, they specialise in preventative oral care and diagnosing and treating gum disease, with their focus on ensuring you keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. Our Hygienists can also advise you on the latest brushing techniques, Interdental cleaning, oral cancer screening, diet advice, stain removal and overall health of the mouth.
In the UK, the number one cause of tooth loss in adults is gum disease.
Here at Southam Dental we take your gum health very seriously and our Hygienist is on hand to help you with all your oral hygiene needs.
It has been well documented that the mouth is reflection of the body and poor oral health can be linked to many general health issues including Alzheimer’s, dementia and many more.
Maintaining good oral health at home is important to reduce the risk of gum inflammation and decay. No matter how diligent you with your oral hygiene routine at home, to keep your teeth and gums healthy, it is important to see a dental hygienist regularly to get to those hard-to-reach areas and remove hard calculus deposits that you cannot remove yourself at home.
Our Hygienists can also see you as a Direct Access patient (without the need to see a dentist first) if you are not a member of our Practice.
Helping you to keep your mouth, gums, and teeth clean and healthy!
